Research & data use

Research at OchaBox means learning from tasting patterns to refine the method and keep language clear. This page explains how tasting data may be used and what safeguards are in place. It complements, but does not replace, the Privacy Policy. You can opt in or out of research participation anytime in the app Settings.

Purpose of research at OchaBox

This work exists to improve clarity and structure for tasting practice as it evolves.

It is not used to rank users, commercialize data, or build predictive profiles about individuals.

It is a quiet, internal feedback loop, not a product in itself.

What data is involved

This analysis draws from tasting notes and structured tasting fields such as aroma, taste, body, and finish.

Optional contextual information like brew details, origin, or session context may be included when it helps interpret patterns.

Aggregation and anonymization

Aggregation means looking at many tastings together to see broad patterns rather than focusing on a single entry.

Anonymization means removing direct identifiers so the data cannot be linked back to a person.

Individual tastings are not studied in isolation, and we do not attempt to expose or infer identities from analysis outputs.

How data is used

Data may be used to observe broad patterns in how people describe aroma, taste, body, and finish.

These patterns help refine the clarity and usefulness of the tasting structure over time and guide internal improvements.

We do not use this data for advertising, resale, or individual profiling.

What data is not used for

We do not sell data or use it for advertising or marketing targeting.

We do not publish public rankings or leaderboards based on tasting activity.

We do not train third-party models with tasting data or attempt to identify individual users.

Research collaboration (high level)

Collaborations may occur with educators or researchers who share an interest in tea tasting practice.

Each collaboration is reviewed for purpose, scope, and safeguards, and only aggregated or anonymized data may be shared.

Raw personal data and direct identifiers are not provided.

Relationship to the Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy governs your rights and explains how personal information is handled.

This page describes research intent and practice in plain language.

Research as a responsibility

Research is a by-product of a careful tasting practice, not the primary goal.

Responsibility and restraint matter more than scale, and user trust comes first.
